The Best Way to Get Rid of Ants

Ants are very bothersome and pesky insects. They will invade your home, eat your food, and sting you. Getting rid of ants in your home is a necessary evil that all of us have to face. The problem of ants at home is so widespread. Luckily, there are many ways for ant control Singapore.

How to get rid of ants naturally

Singapore is home to 130 species of ants. Yet, whatever ant species you might have at home, here are methods you can try to eliminate them the natural way.

Cayenne Pepper or Black Pepper

The scent of pepper irritates most types of ants. Although it can’t kill them, this can repel those bugs from entering your home. You don’t need to find their colony to sprinkle the black or red pepper. Just scatter them to areas where the ants will probably enter.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon is a spice that makes food delish but drives ants away. The ants can’t stand the strong smell of cinnamon and will leave the treated area right away. You can sprinkle the powder on possible entrances directly or mix it with essential oil to emit a stronger smell that will send the ants on their way.

Food-Grade Diatomaceous Earth (DE)

Compared to pepper and cinnamon, diatomaceous earth can kill ants and other insects with direct contact. This razor-sharp microscopic powder can penetrate ants’ exoskeletons causing ants to dehydrate gradually and die. DE comes from fossilized marine phytoplankton and can kill ants in 16-24 hours. To use, sprinkle thinly on windowsills, around garbage bins, and other areas where you see ants often.

Liquid Soap and Water

A mixture of liquid soap and water is a popular homemade solution to get rid of ants. When sprayed directly to ants, the sticky solution can suffocate them to death. It is easy to make because you just mix water and liquid soap in a spray bottle, shake and spray to ants.

Lemons

Ants hate the scent of lemons. They avoid anything bitter and sour. To bar them from entering your space, you can pour lemon extract into their entry spots. Lemon peel can also do the trick. But if you want to maximize the use of your lemons, add lemon juice to water and wash your floors with the mixture.

Boiling Water

If you saw ant hills outside your home, you can pour boiling water into them to kill as many ants as you can. This method may not eliminate the entire colony but it can help stop the growth of ants. Make sure to treat all ant holes you see around your house with boiling water. The lesser they are, the less problem you have.

How to get rid of ants overnight

The above DIY ant control solutions work in killing or repelling ants that you see. Yet, they are not enough to get rid of ants that are hiding in their colony. Home treatments do not account for various types of ant infestations. If it’s the fast, safe, and effective ant control you’re looking for, best to talk with experts in pest control in Singapore.
